1、Prospective Applicants and Availability of Slots |
1) Prospective Applicants: Open to all graduates of Science, Engineering and/or related programs subject to the approval of the Admission Committee.
|
|
2、Limitations |
The program is open to all nationals but the followings
are not included: |
1) Applicants who have been granted Overseas Chinese Student status. |
2) Applicants who have been expelled from other universities in Taiwan, R.O.C. |
3) Applicants who are residents and/or citizens of Hong Kong, Macau, or The People’s Republic of China. |
4) Applicants who have withdrawn their allegiance and citizenship from Taiwan, R.O.C.(However, this item can be overruled should the applicant have completed the 8-year prescriptive period of Ministry of the Interior from the date of the opening of classes). |

3. Screening Procedure and Application Requirements |
1) Screening Procedure: The Admission Committee shall deliberate on the documents and material submitted by the applicants. |
2) Application Requirements: |
A. Two (2) copies of completed application forms. |
B. Photocopy of a valid passport or Alien Resident Certificate or birth certificate. |
C. Copies of Diploma and Transcript of Record: |
a. Two (2) photocopies of diploma (should be authenticated by Taiwan representative office in the area where the university is located). |
b. Two (2) photocopies of diploma translated in English/Chinese if the original copy is written in any other language. |
c. Two (2) original copies of transcript of record (should be authenticated by Taiwan representative office in the area where the university is located and have them stamped and sealed by the university). |
d. Two (2) copies of transcript of record translated in English/Chinese if the original copy is written in any other language. |

Applicants who are admitted to the program MUST provide a
diploma verified by the Taiwan Embassy/Representative Office
to register at the university if they do not provide one
during the application procedure..

D. One (1) copy of medical certificate signed by a certified medical practitioner to include HIV Antibody Test conducted within 6 months from the application date. |
E. Proof of the loss of nationality of Taiwan, R.O.C. According to the Article 2 of the Law of Nationality, overseas Chinese applicant should have lost the R.O.C. nationality for a prescriptive period of 8 years (Starting from the date of the approval from the Ministry of the Interior to the date of the registration of National Sun Yat-sen University). |
F. Other Requirements: |
a. English-proficiency Verification. Applicants who are not of English-speaking nationalities or who have completed their bachelor’s degree in a Non-English speaking academic institution are required to provide the TOEFL, GRE, or any other official document to verify his (her) English proficiency. |

d. Research output, thesis, publication or any material that can further support application. |

4. Completion Requirements |
Students enrolled in this program are required to complete all academic requirements within a period of two (2) years. |
|
5. Academic Requirements |
Students enrolled in this program are required to complete twenty-four (24) units of academic courses having three (3) units each. Four (4) of these courses shall be taken from the core courses specifically designed for this program. Students need to seek the advice of his faculty adviser to help him design his academic loading. With the approval of the program director, the remaining four (4) courses can be taken at the students’ liberty from any of the Engineering courses available. The eight (8) specifically designed courses for this program are: |
1) Advanced Electric Machinery Theory |
2) Finite Element Analysis of Electric Machinery Systems |
3) Linear System Analysis |
4) Load Flow Analysis |
5) Optimal Control |
6) Power Electronics Converter |
7) Power Quality |
8) Power System Operations |

6. Thesis Requirement |
A Master’s thesis in the field of electric power engineering is a strong requisite for graduation. Students enrolled in this program are required to submit and defend his/her thesis to a panel of 3-5 committee members. The topic of the thesis should be related to his/her specialties and meet the need of the industrial development of the student’s country. |

students will earn the “Master of Science (major in Electric Power
Engineering)” degree from the Electrical Engineering Department
after the full completion. |

9. Admission
Results and Registration Date |
1) The University shall announce the names of the short-listed applicants at the end of May. Admitted students will register in September. |
2) An accepted applicant only needs to present his letter of admission to the Taiwan Embassy/Representative Office in his country to process his visa. Admitted applicants who fail to report before the date stated in the admission letter shall likewise be removed from the roster. |
3) The University shall be conducting a verification procedure to authenticate the documents forwarded for screening. Any applicant who has submitted falsified documents or could have rigged the application procedure shall be disqualified from the program. |
4) Students are required to present the original copy of the diploma for verification while report to the University. Graduating students who do not receive the diploma at the time should present it upon registration. For those who fail to do so will result in disqualification from the program. |

Instruction |
All classes shall be conducted in English. |

12. Scholarship and Financial Assistance |
Short-listed applicants shall be entitled to a two (2) year full scholarship provided by the International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF) from August 2013 to July 2015. |
Scholarship: |
The scholarship shall cover airfare, dormitory allowance, tuition and credit fees, miscellaneous expenses, insurance allowance, book allowance, and living allowance: |
A. Airfare. As regulated by the Taiwan ICDF. |
B. Dormitory. Accepted students shall be housed in the graduate student dormitory. |
C. Tuition and Fees. As regulated by NSYSU. |
D. Credit Fees. Based on the required total number of units enrolled. |
E. Insurance Allowance. To cover basic insurance as provided by the National Health Insurance and student safety insurance as regulated by the Ministry of Education, the allowance also covers accident and health care insurance. |
F. Book Allowance. To cover textbooks and other reading materials as approved and purchased by the program director. |
G. Living Allowance. Each student shall be given NTD 15,000.00 per month as living allowance. |
